Join us for a transformative conference focused on positive masculinity and boosting boys’ behavior and engagement.
Be part of a groundbreaking event — the first of its kind in New Zealand. This national conference is hosted by the influential Australian-based Positive Masculinity Foundation, in collaboration with the Wellington College Research Centre.
Across the world, and here in New Zealand, many boys are feeling disengaged and excluded from the classroom. There are some alarming statistics regarding the classroom for boys. The goal of this conference is to create a space for meaningful conversations, keynote presentations and breakout sessions about the challenges facing boys in our society.
As educators, we play a pivotal role in improving the behaviour and engagement of boys. If you are responsible for boys, teaching, coaching, providing care and working with boys, you will already know about the unique challenges they present in ways to manage their engagement and behaviour. You may also know a few things that work, but understand a lot doesn’t work and we need more approaches that we can apply to improving engagement, social connectedness, respect and behaviour.
This workshop is a comprehensive training program aimed at empowering educators with practical skills to enhance boys’ engagement, promote positive practices that enhance connection, authenticity, and motivation in boys and young men. Attendees will learn from world-class speakers about harnessing student culture and gaining strategies for managing behaviour, and engaging parents and whānau in supporting boys.
Speakers include Dr. Ray Swann (Executive Director, Foundation for Positive Masculinity), Dr. Mark Dowley (author of the Amazon best-selling ‘The Classroom Management Handbook), Kristen Molloy (Associate Head of the Crowther Centre), Ingrid Howren (Leadership Coach and +M Curriculum Specialist), Dr. Aaron Columbus (Deputy Principal Teaching & Learning, Wellington College), and a very special keynote speaker (to be announced soon).
The ticket price covers morning tea and lunch. Wellington College can advise of accommodation options for those travelling from outside Wellington. Connect with Dr. Aaron Columbus at the kura.
